Scanner

(Build 3096)

Back to Contents

This controls the scanning options for the system, including how often to scan, and what devices to scan.

Scan options
  • Check readable / unchecked every X days

This specifies the default interval for the scans. This will usually be 30 days by default, meaning that even good sections of the disk will be rescanned every 30 days. If you want to scan disks more or less often, this is what you want to change.

  • Re-check unreadable sectors

This option allows you recheck "damaged" sections of the disk more often. If you specify a value lower than the normal re-check value, it will rescan only the sectors that have been marked as damage. Lowering this value is good idea if you plan on fixing damaged disks manually, or if you suspect that the controller may be having issues.

  • Check file system

This option allows you to recheck the file system, in the case of damage. Lowering this is a good idea, if you plan on quickly resolving the file system issues, as it will clear up the status quicker.

  • Prevent sleep while scanning

In some configurations, the system can go to sleep while a scan may be taking place. This will not adversely affect the scan, but it may cause it to take much longer to complete. This option makes sure that the scan completes before the system can go to sleep.

Removable drives
  • Do not automatically scan removable media (such as USB thumb drives).

This option disables scanning for removable media, such as USB thumb drives or SD cards.

  • Unless plugged in for at least X hours

If this option is enabled as well, then this will only scan devices that have been plugged in for that many hours. This is useful to differentiate between devices that are always plugged in and should be scanned, as opposed to a device that is being temporarily connected to transfer files to or from it.

  • Do not automatically scan removable hard drives (such as USB hard drives).

This option disable scanning of removable hard drives.

  • Unless plugged in for at least X hours

If this option is enabled as well, then this will only scan devices that have been plugged in for that many hours. This is useful to differentiate between devices that are always plugged in and should be scanned, as opposed to a device that is being temporarily connected to transfer files to or from it.
