I've been testing this in Windows 10 and here are some notes on this (typing this for the second time, because a very badly timed BSOD happened):
  • BitLocker detection is enabled in the newest StableBit DrivePool and CloudDrive builds by default. It will wake up other disks in the system, and it can be disabled using the .config advanced settings.
  • Querying for the power mode from the disk directly will also wake up the disks in Windows 10 (at least when I tried it using a USB enclosure using SCT pass-through for Direct I/O).
  • Querying for SMART will wake up disks as well.
However, with that out of the way, accessing a share that is on the pool will not wake up the disks. Even traversing directories on a remote pool and opening file properties works without waking up the disks, as long as the information is cached somewhere. The only way that I got Windows to wake up my disk from standby over SMB is by trying to open a ZIP file, which was not cached.

It's a quick test, but it does confirm that this is not a bug, as it keeps coming up over and over.

But, keep the above points in mind when diagnosing these kinds of issues.

Investigate how accessing shares on the pool affect disks with a standby timer set.
